The Akai MPD24 is Akai’s answer to the popular M-Audio Trigger Finger. In the battle for the midi pad controllers they knew they had to step up their game. Although I must say that neither can top the Korg Kontrol Pad’s X-Y pad. But that’s another review in the battle of the drum pad controllers.

Akai release the new MPD24 after releasing a very buggy Akai MPD16.  The pads for some reason didn’t have that same MPC pad standard that you’d expect from Akai.  You had to smack it like Ike did Tina. Akai didn’t understand in their first offering that people like controllers. Not just the pads but extra bells and whistles.

Akai went back to the drawing board and so the Akai MPD24 has more knobs and faders than it’s competitors. Yeah boyeee as Flavor Flav would say. Hoopz! Ok umm where was I? Ok, Akai’s MPD24 has the same pads as the MPC2500 so that’s nice.   Pretty much standard stuff now days the pads have both pressure and velocity sensitivity.

If you can’t beat the competition join them then improve. The rotary knobs are 360 so you don’t have to worry about switching banks etc.. and it starting at crazy parameters. So let the battle begin.
