Is Microsoft Corp. preparing to release a digital music and video player in time for the holiday shopping season? This would be a direct attack on the dominant Apple Computer’s iPod. All I have to say is, What took so long?

Let’s be honest Microsoft have the money to do whatever they want. If you think about it wma audio and video files are everywhere. So you wouldn’t have to worry about the content, it’s already there. They created the XBox so of course they can do hardware and the XBox2 is sweet. The Microsoft player would pretty much work like the iPod so it’s just the same battle we’ve always had, PC vs. Mac.

It appears that alot of retailers are ticked with Apple for some reason so they are definitely looking for an iPod competitor to step up. Microsoft declined to comment saying the Bloomberg report was speculatory.

Also, Microsoft has push to sell music online launching “The Urge” music service in conjunction with MTV. It’s pretty much like Apple’s iTunes site however the Urge also offers a subscription music service and more than 130 radio stations. And it was said that “The Urge” is potentially better than iTunes. Well we will see what happens.
